I love a good poet. I can sift through Yevtushenko, Sylvia Plath, Ezra Pound, Richard Brautigan ponderously for hours. Meeting Derrick Brown, however, brought a new experience in poetry to my life. I think other people feel the same. I would try to describe it, but half the value of his poetry is in his performance of it, and he’ll tell you why he does what he does, and what you should and shouldn’t be reading between the lines.

So my job here is done. If you don’t go out and buy his books or find him and travel to him with your arms flailing out the side of your car and present him with cake or sculpture, you are doing something wrong.

This short documentary is by my lovely and filmagical boyfriend Sean Trani and his various cohorts. There should be more of this in the world, don’t you think?
